Very ancient breed, probably of Umbrian origin, it has been bred for at least 22 centuries in the middle Tiber valley and in the Val di Chiana, hence the name Chianina. The animal is recognizable by its porcelain white coat, its light head with short horns, its long, cylindrical trunk with broad back and loins and its longer limbs than other breeds.
